Horror Movie and TV Shows October 2020

11.10.2020 (5:35 pm) – Filed under: Horror Movies and TV Shows

Sadly, there are no current mainstream horror movies to be released this October, Alamo Drafthouses are closed, and the Inwood Theater isn’t showing midnight movies.

Update: Due to a lack of new releases, national theater chains are showing classic horror movies from now through Halloween. Cinemark is showing The Shining and the original Nightmare on Elm St, for example. Check your local listings. These showings are typically one night, and vary from theater to theater.

However, the original Halloween, plus Halloween 4 and 5, will be released in select markets this October, including Dallas, San Antonio, Houston, Tyler-Longview, and Austin. I haven’t found comprehensive listings, but in Dallas (according to Google) Halloween will be playing Friday, October 30, Halloween, and November 1, at Studio Movie Grills, Cinepolis Cinemas, and Moviehouse and Eatery locations.

Additionally, those three chains will show other vintage horror movies in October. Cinepolis will be showing It, It Ends, Beetlejuice, Hocus Pocus beginning October 9, and will show the original Halloween, The Exorcist, Friday the 13th, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Practical Magic, and The Addams Family later in the month.

Studio Movie Grills will be showing The Goonies, Hocus Pocus, and new indies No Escape and Death of Me, beginning October 9.  Brand new indie horror movie, The Empty Man, will begin showing on October 23. Saw is showing during the final week of October. The original Halloween will be shown on Halloween weekend, beginning on October 30.

Moviehouse and Eatery locations are showing Beetlejuice, Hocus Pocus, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Practical Magic beginning October 9. The Exorcist will begin playing on October 23. The original Halloween will be gin playing on October 30.

Movie Tavern locations will be playing The Conjuring, Scream, Annabelle, Lights Out, Beetlejuice, Hocus Pocus, beginning October 9. A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Hotel Transylvania will be out later in the month.

The Drive In at the Central Rooftop Cinema Club in Dallas, close to Uptown, has horror movies playing nightly from October 18-Halloween. Early shows start at 7:15 or 7:30, with later shows starting between 9:45 and 10:30. Showings include Halloween, Friday the 13th, The Conjuring, The Craft, Scream, Ghostbusters, Hocus Pocus, The Lost Boys, Beetlejuice, and Nightmare on Elm Street.

The Texas Theater is showing Sleepaway Camp (Oct 23 8pm), the original Nightmare on Elm St Oct 24 4 and 9pm), The Love Witch (Oct 29 8pm), and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (Halloween at 4:30 and 9pm).

Amazon Prime has Welcome to the Blumhouse, with four horror movies, dropping in October.

Haunted House Opening Dates

11.10.2020 (5:13 pm) – Filed under: Halloween News,Haunted House Listings,Haunted House Opening Dates

Due to Covid, it’s possible that haunted attractions will have to close with little notice, so please check with the haunted attraction before buying tickets, and before you leave for the attraction. It’s best to call the number for the attraction for updates, or to check their Facebook site. Websites are usually last to be updated. Please remember to take a mask with you. Most attractions will be required to enforce mask wearing, and most will not have masks to provide to customers.

Update: Some haunted attractions will be selling a limited number of tickets, online only, this season, so it’s best to buy your tickets in advance this year. If nothing else, check with the attraction’s site, or Facebook page to find out whether advance tickets are required. In 2020, don’t show up at a haunted house with the expectation of being able to buy tickets at the box office.

Update II: House of Torment is closed for the 2020 season.

Dates and times are for opening night only. Please check with the haunted house’s site for all other dates and times.

Waco Haunted Houses Opens October 9!

Waco Haunted Houses opens Friday, October 9, at 8pm. Plans are for 8pm-midnight, Friday and Saturday. This attraction features two haunted houses, and nice gift shop. Things will be a little different this year, as with all haunted houses, but you can refer to my 2019 review for a full rundown of Waco Haunted Houses. This place has always been one of my favorites, and it’s worth the drive if you live in DFW or Austin. Check their Facebook page for updates.

House of Torment Is Closed for 2020

04.10.2020 (8:30 pm) – Filed under: Haunted House News,Haunted House Opening Dates

House of Torment was to have opened on September 12. They have delayed their opening weekly since then. They just announced cancellation of their 2020 season, and to no one’s surprise, the fault lies with the Austin city government. The full statement is below.

We have been working with the City of Austin over the last few weeks and despite submitting multiple plans that exceed Texas’ requirements for safely opening, we have been unable to receive that approval. Unfortunately, at this time, we are sad to say that we will not be opening the House of Torment (as you know it) for the 2020 Halloween Season. We are currently working on an alternative way to celebrate the season and continue the House of Torment tradition, so stay tuned! In the meantime, our sister attraction, 13th Floor Haunted House in San Antonio is open now, we’d love to see you there this season, please keep your eyes open for some great discounts that we will be offering specifically for House of Torment fans that visit San Antonio!

All orders for this season have been issued full refunds. Please allow 3 – 5 business days for refund to reflect on your bank statement.
