Catfish Plantation is a restaurant in an old Victorian style house in Waxahachie, a little to east of I-35, one block north of Business 287, on Water St. Directions are here. It is also on every list of paranormal sites in Texas. Several paranormal groups have investigated this place over the years, and DAPS hosts a yearly ghost hunt there. Catfish Plantation also decorates for Halloween and has a pumpkin patch in October. As it’s name suggests, they specialize in catfish, but they offer a wide variety of food, and have a full bar. There are seasonal dishes, including pumpkin fries and the great pumpkin dessert, during October. I usually get meat pies as an appetizer, and one of the catfish platters as the main course. Their desserts are good, but they give large portions, so I’m usually too full for dessert.

There are two special events this October. The October 12 Ghost Hunt with DAPS, tickets here, and the Black Champagne Buffet on Halloween, tickets here. Information about the two events can be found here.

Reservations are not taken, and there are only three dining rooms, so it’s best to arrive early between Friday and Sunday during October. Catfish Plantation is open from 5pm-9pm Wednesday-Friday, 11am-9pm on Saturday, and 11am-8pm on Sunday. I usually arrive at 5 on Fridays and around 4:30 on Saturdays. I never have to wait at those times.

Their address and phone number are:
