The Nut House is the 2007 haunted house of the Denison Jaycees, replacing Haunted High, which was unfortunately demolished this year. Nut House is located off of Main Street in downtown Denison, about a block east of Spur 503. Exit 503 from US 75, head east, then take a left onto Main Street and the Nut House will be on your left in a block. The ticket price is only $12. which makes Nut House as inexpensive as any haunt in North Texas.

To begin with, your wait in line won't be boring since actors come out to work the crowd. I wish more haunts would try this since lines can be pretty long, especially on Fridays and Saturdays. The first room you enter is a lobby of sorts, where you can hear the screams of the resident witch. One group was so scared by this point that they decided against going through the house. The first room is possibly my favorite room of the entire season. Bright white light, strobes, and fog are combined to make it almost impossible to move through. The only way to get out of the room is to feel along the walls. In the rest of the haunt you'll find two clown rooms, a cannibal area, a double spotted room (rooms with black walls, spots, and actors camouflaged to blend in), a good car scene, chainsaws and an extremely well designed room with an actor well disguised as a prop on a table.

The actors at the Nut House are extremely good at surprising you and then following up with pursuit. The haunt is designed to allow the actors to chase you through the house if they want, and since only one group goes through at once they have the time to do so.

Nut House could charge more than $12 if they wanted to, and at this price they are a can't miss haunted attraction. For those with a morbid streak, after going through the Nut House you can head up Main Street for about a mile and see what is left of Haunted High. There isn't much left, but the clock tower survived the demolition and is for sale!
